Dominant Josh Tongue Stars as England Crush India by 125 Runs in Record T20 Win

Jofra Archer and Josh Tongue blew India away with raw pace at Trent Bridge as England condemned the world champions to a record 125-run T20 defeat. The hosts posted 201 for 7, powered by Phil Salt's gritty 70 off 44 balls. In reply, India's entire team could only manage 76 runs, barely eclipsing Salt's individual score. Archer and Tongue were too hot to handle, both consistently pushing the speed gun past 90mph. Their new-ball burst scattered India's power-packed top order devastatingly. Tongue claimed career-best figures of 4 for 28, while Archer finished with 3 for 29. The innings was wrapped up with 8.2 overs remaining. It was an emphatic result in Nottingham, eclipsing India's previous worst T20 defeat by a massive 45-run margin, and handed England a 2-0 lead in the five-match series. India started the day perfectly, winning the toss before Arshdeep Singh bowled a near-perfect maiden over to Salt.
But that proved to be a red herring. Jos Buttler accelerated with 36 of the first 43 runs before Prince Yadav halted his charge with an inswinging yorker that crushed Buttler's boot and shattered his stumps. Yadav then added Harry Brook to keep England in check. Salt, who was entrenched on 17 from 19 balls at the start of the ninth over, finally broke the shackles. He smashed 53 off his next 25 deliveries, with a loose over from Varun Chakravarthy easing him into his work. He launched a long-hop for six, then hit three straight fours to catch up on his ponderous start.
Harshit Rana struck back with consecutive wickets in the 12th over. Jacob Bethell, unable to recreate his match-winning heroics from Old Trafford, hit a skier into the leg side, while Tom Banton steered his first ball straight to deep third. But Salt kept going, reaching his fifty in 36 balls and adding two more sixes before eventually slashing Axar Patel to backward point. Sam Curran (41 not out) then picked up the baton, while Will Jacks kept the pressure on by smashing two of his first four deliveries into the stands. Two runs off the final ball guided England past the 200-run mark. It proved more than enough as India wilted under a hostile examination. Archer set the tone with a rapid first over, hurrying 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi with a 90mph bouncer and smiling when the next ball was sprayed for six over gully.

Two of Tongue's first three balls also went for boundaries, but from there it was all England. Abhishek Sharma slashed to deep point. Sooryavanshi gloved behind as he took on Archer's next bouncer. Ishan Kishan picked out Bethell with a flat pull. By the time Archer removed Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel, it was game over at 52 for five from just five overs. Tilak Varma was stumped off Jacks, and Tongue picked up his third wicket courtesy of Shivam Dube's thin nick. India were all out for 76, their heaviest-ever T20I defeat, and now need to win both remaining matches just to salvage a draw.
