Croatia head coach Zlatko Dalic has resigned after the country's exit from the World Cup, the Croatian Football Federation confirmed.
The 59-year-old, who took charge in October 2017, concluded his nearly nine-year tenure following Croatia’s round of 32 defeat to Portugal.
In an official statement, the federation said: “A humble arrival. An unforgettable journey. A proud farewell. After almost nine years, head coach Zlatko Dalic has chosen to close his immensely successful chapter with Croatia.
“Coach, thank you for everything – the victories, the milestones, the qualifications, the medals, the unity, the respect, and your steadfast dedication to representing Croatia both on and off the field.
“Your achievements are a testament to your coaching excellence. The admiration you’ve earned from players, staff, and opponents speaks volumes about your character.”
Dalic guided Croatia to the 2018 World Cup final just months after his appointment and led the team to a third-place finish at the 2022 tournament.
He is widely celebrated as the most successful coach in Croatian football history, having secured victories in more than half of his matches as manager.
Reflecting on his tenure, Dalic said: “When I took over the national team, I believed in the players’ abilities and in myself, but I never imagined we would achieve all that we have in these nearly nine years.
“I can’t express how proud I am of every win, of qualifying for major tournaments, of the three medals, and of those unforgettable nights in Croatian football – such as when we beat England or Brazil at the World Cups.”
