Trent Bridge, July 8:
England cricket team produced a commanding performance to defeat the India cricket team by a massive 125 runs in the third T20 International at Trent Bridge. With this emphatic victory, England sealed an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series, underlining their dominance in both batting and bowling departments.
Batting first, England posted an imposing total of 201/7, driven by an outstanding knock from Phil Salt, who scored a fluent 70 off 44 deliveries. His innings provided the backbone of England’s total, combining aggression with smart shot selection. Sam Curran added crucial momentum in the middle overs with a quickfire 41, ensuring the hosts crossed the 200-run mark. India’s bowlers struggled to contain the flow of runs, particularly during the powerplay and death overs, allowing England to maintain pressure throughout the innings.
In response, India endured a dramatic collapse, getting bowled out for just 76 runs in 11.4 overs — their lowest total in T20 Internationals and their heaviest defeat in terms of runs. England’s pace attack proved devastating, with Josh Tongue claiming four wickets and Jofra Archer picking up three, dismantling India’s top order early in the chase. The Indian batting lineup failed to build any partnerships, with only a couple of players reaching double digits, reflecting the scale of the collapse.
After the match, India captain Shreyas Iyer admitted that the team had played “awful cricket,” acknowledging shortcomings in both execution and intent. The defeat raises serious concerns for India as they look to regroup ahead of the remaining fixtures, while England will take confidence from a near-perfect performance that showcased their depth and discipline across all departments.
