New Delhi: The ICC T20I rankings have provided a silver lining for India, with star batters Ishan Kishan and Abhishek Sharma retaining the No. 1 and No. 2 spots respectively, even after the team’s disappointing tour of the UK, where they struggled against Ireland and England.
India’s T20I season began on a disappointing note, first suffering a 2-0 series whitewash against Ireland and then falling 2-0 behind against England in the ongoing five-match T20I series. The crushing 125-run defeat on Tuesday also marked India’s biggest-ever loss in the format.
Despite the setbacks, Ishan Kishan and Abhishek Sharma continue to dominate the ICC T20I batting rankings.
The latest ICC rankings confirmed that Ishan remains at No. 1, with his teammate Abhishek holding the No. 2 position. The only other Indian in the top 10 is vice-captain Tilak Varma, who stays at No. 6 with 721 rating points.
Meanwhile, India T20I captain Shreyas Iyer enjoyed a significant rise in the rankings after scoring a brilliant 68 off 47 balls in the rain-affected first T20I against England, followed by 37 in the second match, which India lost by four wickets. Iyer has climbed to 93rd in the batting rankings.
England stars climb the rankingsEngland opener Phil Salt remains at No. 4 in the ICC T20I batting rankings after his impressive 70-run knock in the third T20I against India.
Sam Curran also enjoyed a productive week, climbing to No. 108 in the batting rankings after his unbeaten 41 on Tuesday. He also moved up 12 places to 71st in the T20I bowling rankings, while his all-round performances in the series lifted him to 13th in the ICC T20I all-rounders’ rankings.
Veteran leg-spinner Adil Rashid climbed to No. 3 in the ICC T20I bowling rankings following his figures of 2/14 in the third T20I. The series also saw Josh Tongue enter the rankings after claiming four wickets in only his second T20I appearance.
Will Jacks also broke into the top 10 of the ICC T20I all-rounders’ rankings, moving up to No. 7.
Fourth T20I between India and EnglandIndia and England will meet in the fourth T20I on 9 July at the Gloucestershire County Ground in Bristol.
England, who lead the series 2-0, will be aiming to seal the series, while India will be hoping to register their first victory of the tour and keep the contest alive.
