Tammy Beaumont Announced Retirement From International Cricket: England women's cricket team's veteran batsman Tammy Beaumont has announced her retirement from international cricket. The first women's Test match to be held between India and England at the historic ground of Lord's this week will be the last match of her illustrious career. She will end her almost 17 year long international journey on this historical ground. 35 year old Beaumont made her international debut in 2009. Since then he has played a total of 260 matches for England.
Why did you decide to retire after Lord's Test?
Announcing her retirement, Tammy Beaumont said, 'Playing for England for almost 17 years has been the biggest honor for me. When I was a little girl and fell in love with cricket, I didn't even know that playing for England could be an option. It makes me feel very happy to think how far sports has come in our country. This historic Test at Lord's, which is our first women's Test match at this ground, is the perfect and ideal opportunity for me to end this magical journey.
First English woman to score a double century in Test
Tammy Beaumont's name is recorded with many big records in the history of women's cricket. She became the first female cricketer of England to score a double century in Test cricket by playing a historic inning of 208 runs in the Ashes Test played against Australia at Trent Bridge in the year 2023. Apart from this, she is one of the only two women players of England who have scored centuries in all three formats of the game. She is also the female batsman who has scored the most centuries for England in ODI cricket with 12 centuries.
England won the 2017 World Cup
The golden moment of Beaumont's career came in the year 2017, when England won the ODI World Cup title on their home soil. In that tournament, Beaumont wreaked havoc with his batting and scored the maximum of 410 runs in the 50 over format, for which he was awarded the title of 'Player of the Tournament'. However, she was also a part of the English team that was eliminated in the semi-finals of the ODI World Cup 2025 held last year. At the same time, he was not selected in the England team for the recently concluded T20 World Cup.
