'IPL is Like Easy Mode': Jofra Archer's Brutal Verdict After England Crush India in Nottingham
Cricket Gully | July 8, 2026 9:39 PM CST

Jofra Archer, the England fast bowler, grabbed the headlines after his candid assessment of the Indian Premier League in relation to international cricket, following his team's comprehensive win over India at Nottingham.

Archer was arguably the star of the new ball as he claimed the Player of the Match award for his 3 crucial wickets. He had scooped Sooryavanshi with a devilishly high-bouncer, then dismissed Iyer with a precise, testing ball before trapping Axar plumb in front of middle with another cunning ball. The other new ball spearhead, Tongue, also enjoyed a good day with the ball as he took 4 wickets.

The quick bowlers in the England team kept playing up India's top order with extra pace and bounce. The real difference, however, was England's seamers, who, in the powerplays, bowled at an average of 89.9 mph - the fastest powerplay bowling spell by any team in T20I history.

Archer Explains Why IPL Feels Different

Archer voiced his reasons post-match for why he thought bowling in England was easier than in the IPL, where the flat pitches and tighter boundaries usually benefit the batters.

Archer said:

"It goes back to normal here. You try to bowl straight and good length, whereas over there, because they make it so easy [for batters] and the boundaries are so small, you have to be really, really particular. Whereas here, I feel like your margin for error is a little bit bigger."

The England pacer also admitted that in the IPL, 200 runs in total isn't even enough in most cases in neutral weather as the bowling conditions are very batsman-friendly.

He added:

"At the IPL, sometimes 200 isn't safe. With 200 on the board on that wicket, I don't want to say [we were] confident, but I feel like they would have taken a really special innings there to lose the game. I'm just glad everybody chipped in. Everybody that bowled got wickets today, so I'm just glad to win."

England's Pace Attack Sets the Tone

Archer and Tongue gave England total dominance from the beginning by dismissing India's top order in the powerplay. The visitors never recovered from that moment.

Tongue took his first wickets in T20I following a debut against the same opponents in Manchester without taking a wicket, as Archer demonstrated once more why he is such a vital component of England's white-ball game.

Victory underlined home familiarity for England too, where wicket-to-wicket fast bowlers exploited every bit of pace and bounce. Archer's comments about IPL would surely attract debate, more so given they were made moments after England thrashed the visitors. He highlighted the chasm between franchise and international cricket in gruelling English conditions.
