Five active weather systems have combined to unleash intense rainfall across Gujarat, leaving parts of South Gujarat and Saurashtra battling severe flooding. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert for Navsari, Valsad, and Dang districts, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall, while several other districts are also expected to receive intense showers.

The affected districts include Surat, Tapi, Narmada, Chhota Udepur, Dahod, Amreli, and Bhavnagar. Between 6 am and 10 am on July 8, rainfall was recorded in 59 talukas across the state. The highest rainfall during this period was reported from Kaprada (1.26 inches) and Nanapondha (1.14 inches) in Valsad district.
Navsari Turns Into a 'Sea' After Relentless Rain

Continuous heavy rainfall has caused widespread flooding in Navsari, with rising water levels inundating roads, residential colonies, and commercial areas.

Drone visuals from the city reveal an alarming situation, showing large parts of Navsari completely submerged. Overflowing rivers and runoff from upstream catchment areas have worsened the flooding, making it appear as though the city has transformed into a vast water body.

Major roads have turned into fast-flowing streams, while stranded vehicles can be seen partially submerged in floodwaters, disrupting normal life and raising concerns among residents.

6 Talukas Receive More Than 10 Inches of Rain

Gujarat witnessed exceptionally heavy rainfall over the past 24 hours, with 195 talukas receiving significant showers.

Six talukas recorded more than 10 inches of rainfall, including:

  • Palsana (Surat): 18 inches
  • Kamrej: 17 inches
  • Navsari: 15 inches
  • Surat City: 14 inches
  • Kaprada: 13 inches
  • Jalalpore: 11 inches

The intense downpour has caused widespread waterlogging and flooding in several low-lying areas. ALSO READ: 2008 Ahmedabad Serial Blasts: Gujarat High Court Upholds Death Penalty for 38 Convicts

Reservoirs Fill Rapidly; 36 NDRF and SDRF Teams Deployed

Heavy inflows have significantly increased water levels in reservoirs across Gujarat.

The Sardar Sarovar (Narmada) Dam currently holds around 2.17 lakh MCFT of water, approximately 65% of its storage capacity. Meanwhile, 206 other reservoirs in the state have reached an average storage level of 40.01%.

Authorities have placed 11 dams on High Alert and four dams on Alert due to rising water levels.

Since the onset of the monsoon, the state administration has shifted 1,528 people to safer locations and rescued 134 individuals from flood-affected areas.

To strengthen disaster response, 36 teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have been deployed across vulnerable districts.
