Jofra Archer compared the ease of batting in the Indian Premier League (IPL) to playing in English conditions. This comes after India suffered a heavy 125-run defeat against England at Trent Bridge in the third T20I on Tuesday, July 7.
Chasing 202 in the second innings, the Men in Blue were bundled out for just 76 in an attempt to play aggressively, before understanding the conditions. Archer stated that the conditions are way too favourable for the batters in the IPL, something which the Indian batters would not find in England. The right-arm seamer stated that on home soil, the bowlers have a bigger margin for error, allowing them to have the upper hand over the batters on a few instances.
"It goes back to normal here. You try to bowl straight and good length, whereas over there, because they make it so easy [for batters] and the boundaries are so small, you have to be really, really particular. Whereas here, I feel like your margin for error is a little bit bigger," Jofra Archer said via Cricinfo.
Archer also shared the difference between an ideal total in the IPL and games played in England. The Sussex star was satisfied with his side securing 201 in the first innings, a score that would have been chased down with ease in the franchise competition thanks to conditions weighing towards the batters.
"At the IPL, sometimes 200 isn't safe. With 200 on the board on that wicket, I don't want to say [we were] confident, but I feel like they would have taken a really special innings there to lose the game. I'm just glad everybody chipped in. Everybody that bowled got wickets today, so I'm just glad to win," Archer added.
India need to win the remaining two T20Is of the five-match series against England should they want to level the series 2-2. The Three Lions, on the other hand, have made an excellent start to their white-ball campaign after losing the Test series to New Zealand.
