Liverpool are reportedly at the forefront among Premier League powerhouses pursuing Mexico’s rising star Gilberto Mora.

According to reports, the Merseyside club are leading the chase for the 17-year-old midfielder, who enjoyed a breakout performance during the 2026 World Cup. Mora started three matches as co-hosts Mexico advanced to the round of 16 before being eliminated by England.

Mora’s standout displays have fuelled excitement around the teenager, currently playing for Liga MX outfit Tijuana, and Liverpool are said to be one of several major European clubs expressing interest in him.

Mora was the youngest player to feature in this summer’s World Cup and became the sixth-youngest in the tournament’s history when he came on as a second-half substitute against South Africa in the opening fixture at just 17 years and 240 days old.

He later earned a starting role in Mexico’s final Group A encounter against Czechia, the round-of-32 triumph over Ecuador, and the eventual defeat to England.

After facing several Premier League stars at the Estadio Azteca last weekend, Mora has reportedly drawn the attention of multiple English clubs. TEAMtalk reports that Liverpool are ‘very keen’ on securing the services of the promising youngster.

The same report suggests that the Reds have already made contact with Mora’s representatives to ‘establish the conditions of a deal’ and to determine whether he would be open to joining Andoni Iraola’s side.

TEAMtalk further notes that Liverpool’s approach remains exploratory at this stage, but the club’s management are eager to move ahead of their domestic and international competitors who have also been monitoring Mora closely.

Arsenal are also believed to have shown recent interest, while Manchester City and Chelsea are reportedly among the suitors. TEAMtalk claims that Real Madrid have been ‘long-term admirers’ of Mora, with the youngster viewing a move to the Spanish giants as a ‘dream come true’. Meanwhile, Barcelona are understood to have dispatched scouts to observe him in action.

However, the report adds that Manchester United are unlikely to proceed with a move despite tracking Mora for the past six months, as the club wishes to avoid a bidding battle.

The talented midfielder still has three years remaining on his contract with Tijuana and is already valued at over €40 million (£34 million). That figure could rise as competition intensifies following his impressive World Cup displays.

Nevertheless, FIFA regulations stipulate that Mora cannot officially join a foreign club until he turns 18 on 14 October this year, meaning any potential transfer will have to wait until after that date.

With the new Liga MX season set to commence later this month, Mora will have ample opportunities to continue impressing for Tijuana and potentially increase his market value ahead of a possible move to Europe.
