RBI Coin Rules: If someone refuses to accept coins from you, you can directly complain at these places

You may have noticed that in many places, coins are refused, claiming they are not in circulation. Many shopkeepers, auto drivers, and small businesses flatly refuse to accept 1 rupee, 2 rupee, 5 rupee, or 10 rupee coins. This is due to various rumors surrounding coins. However, according to Reserve Bank of India rules, refusing to accept Indian currency, or coins, is a legal offense. If someone does this to you, you can complain.

What are the rules?
According to the Reserve Bank of India, all coins in circulation in the country are fully legal tender. If any individual or bank deliberately refuses to accept these coins, they can be charged under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code for disobeying a government order.

If the bank refuses, complain directly here.

If a bank branch refuses to accept or exchange your valid coins, you should first file a written complaint with the bank manager. If the bank fails to take appropriate action within 30 days, you can file a complaint directly against the bank through the RBI's online portal.

Inform the police about the shopkeeper's arbitrariness.
If any shopkeeper or businessman refuses to accept coins from you, then you can immediately lodge a written complaint about it at the nearest police station or district administration (like District Magistrate or SDM Court).
