Monsoon rains beneficial for crops

According to information received from Chandigarh, there has been a change in the weather in Punjab today. After bright morning sunshine, it became cloudy around 11 am and many areas including Jalandhar received good rainfall. The Indian Meteorological Department has predicted rain till July 12. During this period, moderate to heavy rains are expected across the state. Presently monsoon is passing near Bathinda.

Heavy rain has suddenly started in Jalandhar. It was cloudy around 10 in the morning. The Meteorological Department has issued a rain alert in Punjab and Chandigarh. There is a possibility of heavy rain in Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Rupnagar and Mohali, while light to moderate rain may occur in Firozpur, Fazilka, Faridkot, Sri Muktsar Sahib, Bathinda and Mansa.

Effect of Himachal rain

Many major rivers and dams of Punjab absorb water coming from Himachal Pradesh. If there is heavy rain in Himachal, it may have an adverse impact on Punjab. Due to this, the water of the rivers will fill the dams, which may create overflow situation and cause flood problem.

According to BBMB (Bhakra Beas Management Board), the water level of Bhakra Dam on Monday was 1565.46 feet, with inflow of 37,388 cusecs of water, while release of 23,738 cusecs of water. The water level of Pong Dam stood at 1318.57 feet, with inflow of 16,860 cusecs of water and outflow of 15,503 cusecs of water.

Despite the arrival of monsoon, the heat persists due to humidity. On Monday, electricity demand was recorded at 15,112 MW. During this period, 10,148 MW power was obtained from the central pool, whereas the scheduled power was 10,571 MW. The state produced 4,967 MW of electricity.
