Switzerland, the world’s richest country by GDP per capita, has the second most powerful passport in the world after Sweden according to the 2026 Global Passport Index that ranks nations based on quality of life, mobility access and investment attractiveness.
Switzerland comes in 7th on the mobility index, second in investment, and 36th in quality of life, according to the ranking released annually by residency and citizenship planning advisory firm Global Citizen Solutions.
Its passport provides visa-free and visa-on-arrival access to 120 countries, including Austria, Belgium, China, France, Germany, Japan, and the U.S.

According to the 2026 Henley Passport Index, the biggest and most well-known passport ranking, Switzerland had the world’s fifth most powerful passport with visa-free access to 185 destinations. The Henley index is released quarterly based on how many visa-free entries each passport grants its holder.
