Former Chelsea boss Liam Rosenior has been named the new head coach of Ligue 1 outfit Paris FC.
The 41-year-old has put pen to paper on a two-year deal, with the French club confirming his appointment on Tuesday following the exit of previous manager Antoine Kombouare.
Rosenior’s return to French football comes just months after his dismissal from Chelsea in April, ending a turbulent 106-day spell at Stamford Bridge. During his short tenure, he managed 11 wins from 23 matches.
Before his ill-fated time in West London, Rosenior had departed Strasbourg—a sister club of Chelsea—in January. His period with the Ligue 1 side had been far more fruitful, steering them to a seventh-place finish and earning European qualification for the first time in eight years.
He now succeeds Kombouare, who took charge in February and successfully guided Paris FC away from relegation danger. Despite that success, the club has opted to take a fresh direction under new leadership.
A statement released by Paris FC said Rosenior was "fully aligned with the club’s philosophy and sporting project".
Sporting director Marco Neppe elaborated: "Liam Rosenior brings together all the qualities we were seeking. He is a modern and demanding coach, recognised for his capacity to develop both individual players and the collective unit. Beyond his tactical expertise, we were particularly drawn to his management style and his ability to unite the squad around a clear vision."
Expressing his excitement, Rosenior said: "I’m thrilled to become the new coach of Paris FC. I can’t wait to start working with the players. I want my team to enjoy playing football, to express themselves freely, and to play with intensity and passion. That’s what defines me, and I hope to bring that energy to this club."
Rosenior’s initially promising start at Chelsea, following Enzo Maresca’s abrupt departure on New Year’s Day, soon deteriorated. A streak of five consecutive league defeats without a goal ultimately led to his sacking.
Paris FC, who returned to France’s top tier last season after a 45-year absence since 1979, had previously dismissed promotion-winning coach Stephane Gilli following a poor run of results. Kombouare, formerly with Paris Saint-Germain, steadied the team to an 11th-place finish, but the board has decided to take a different route.
The club’s statement concluded: "Paris FC welcomes Liam Rosenior and extends its gratitude to Antoine Kombouare for his contributions during his tenure."
