Erling Haaland’s Astonishing Goalscoring Form Has England on Edge Ahead of Quarter-Final Clash

Everyone knows just how lethal Erling Haaland can be in front of goal, but even by his own remarkable standards, his record for Norway is almost unreal.

It’s hardly breaking news that Erling Haaland is exceptional at finding the back of the net.

The Manchester City forward has been scoring at an extraordinary rate of more than four goals every five matches across all competitions since he joined the Etihad Stadium in 2022 — a truly staggering statistic.

Yet even by Haaland’s own incredible benchmarks, his achievements with the Norwegian national team are beyond belief.

At just 25 years of age, Haaland already tops Norway’s all-time goalscoring chart with 62 goals. The previous record holder, Jorgen Juve, had managed 33 goals, with his last strike coming way back in 1934.

In his debut World Cup campaign this summer, Haaland has already scored as many goals as Romelu Lukaku and Luis Suarez have managed across their entire World Cup careers, and just one fewer than Diego Maradona — all three of whom featured in four separate tournaments.

However, what is truly concerning for England ahead of their quarter-final encounter in Miami on Saturday is that Haaland has scored in each of his last 14 competitive appearances for Norway.

That remarkable run has produced 27 goals, including three hat-tricks — one of which came as part of a five-goal masterclass in an 11–1 thrashing of Moldova.

The streak also features braces against Brazil, Senegal, and Italy — none of them lightweight opponents in the global football arena.

To be specific, these were all competitive matches, as Haaland failed to score in his two friendlies before the World Cup. Those were a goalless draw against Switzerland in March, where he played 63 minutes, and a 1–1 draw with Morocco, in which he featured for 72 minutes.

One crucial focus for England will be maintaining full concentration and intensity deep into the contest.

That’s because Haaland has developed a notable habit of scoring late in matches — both during this World Cup and in the build-up to it — especially when facing top-tier opposition.

His first goal in the double against Brazil arrived in the 79th minute, while his winner against Ivory Coast came in the 86th. Both of his goals against Senegal were netted in the second half.

Back in November, he bagged braces against Italy and Estonia. His opener against Italy came in the 78th minute, and versus Estonia, he struck in the 56th.

Interestingly, Iraq is the only team in his last eight outings for Norway against whom Haaland has scored in the first half.

In fact, one has to look back to February for the last time Haaland found the net before the 65th minute in a Premier League fixture — though the fact that he has scored earlier against Liverpool and Real Madrid in cup competitions since then hardly offers much comfort for England fans.
