D2C Footwear Brand Fizzy Goblet Onboards Kareena Kapoor As Investor

D2C footwear and accessories brand Fizzy Goblet has onboarded Kareena Kapoor Khan as a strategic investor, almost four years after it appointed the actor as the brand ambassador in April 2022.

The financial details of the investment were not disclosed.

The startup said the move comes as it expands its offline and online presence across India while accelerating its international growth plans.

Kapoor will now take on a broader role beyond marketing. She will participate in the brand’s design selection process and help drive awareness for Fizzy Goblet in India and international markets.

Founded in 2013 by Laksheeta Govil, Fizzy Goblet designs and manufactures footwear and accessories in India. After starting with traditional Indian footwear such as juttis and kolhapuris, it has expanded its portfolio to include heels, loafers, sneakers, workwear, comfort sliders, handbags and potlis.

The startup sells through its own website and operates 16 company-owned stores.

Fizzy Goblet claimed it is currently operating at an annual revenue run rate of about ₹60 Cr and is targeting a run rate of more than ₹100 Cr over the next year. It also ships its products to countries like the US, the UK, the UAE, Canada, and Australia

The development comes as celebrity investments in consumer brands continue to gather pace, with startups increasingly bringing on public personalities as long-term strategic partners rather than limiting their roles to brand endorsements.

Most recently, actor Kunal Kapoor partnered with crowdfunding platform Ketto’s cofounders, Varun Sheth and Zaheer Adenwala, to launch healthtech startup MetaGO.

Last month, Pune-based fitness startup Fittr onboarded Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma as an investor and equity partner, expanding a relationship that began with his appointment as the brand ambassador.

Earlier this year, D2C kids’ lifestyle brand Rosada brought in actor Shilpa Shetty Kundra as a strategic investor. Agilitas Sports also added actor Anushka Sharma as an investor and strategic collaborator, while jewellery brand GIVA roped in actor Kriti Sanon as both an investor and brand ambassador.

Other notable celebrity investments this year include cricketer Ajinkya Rahane backing footwear brand Chupps and cricketer Riyan Parag investing in deeptech startup Proxgy.
