New Delhi [भारत]July 5 (ANI): The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) on Sunday said its ship Rani Gaidinliu has recovered a scientific data buoy that was washed ashore in the Bay of Bengal amid challenging sea conditions.

In a post on X, the ICG said this data buoy from the Ministry of Earth Sciences' National Institute of Ocean Technology had drifted more than 150 km from its deployed position near Nellore in Andhra Pradesh. "In challenging sea conditions, @IndiaCoastGuard ship Rani Gaidinliu recovered the data buoy of @MoesNiot that was washed ashore in the Bay of Bengal," the ICG posted. The post further said that the buoy was washed away more than 150+ km from its position near #Nellore, #AndhraPradesh.

The Coast Guard said the recovery was part of its charter of duty. The post read, "As part of its charter of duty, #ICG is committed to sowing scientific data and supporting and protecting scientific endeavours." Injured sailor airlifted

Earlier on Saturday, the Indian Coast Guard along with the Indian Navy rescued a sailor who suffered serious eye injuries from the crude oil vessel MT Desh Shakti off the Mumbai coast. According to the Indian Coast Guard, despite bad weather, the sailor was safely airlifted from Mumbai by a naval helicopter.

The statement further said, "This MEDEVAC was made possible by the seamless coordination between MRCC, ICG, Indian Navy and SCI. This operation reaffirms ICG's unwavering commitment to save lives at sea through round-the-clock preparedness and inter-agency coordination."

According to the Western Naval Command, "Despite red alert due to persistent rain, poor visibility and rough seas, the helicopter efficiently evacuated the injured sailor using a rescue basket. After stabilizing the patient on the helicopter, he was taken to shore for immediate medical care." (ANI)
