Kylian Mbappe, the French football star, has strongly criticized the racist comments made by Paraguayan senator Celeste Amarilla following France's narrow 1-0 victory over Paraguay in the FIFA World Cup round of 16. He labeled her a 'despicable woman' unfit for her role after she referred to him as a 'colonised Cameroonian' and accused him of being 'resentful, newly rich, arrogant, and ugly'. Amarilla also claimed that France's win was merely a fluke and suggested that Mbappe was 'nervous and scared' throughout the match.
In a post on X, Mbappe expressed his outrage, stating, 'Madame Celeste Amarilla, you are a despicable woman and unworthy of your position. You do not represent Paraguay, a nation that has shown passion and honor during this competition. Your reckless and racist comments have overshadowed the remarkable journey of your players in this World Cup, presenting a poor image of your country.' He also addressed her derogatory remarks about his upbringing, asserting, 'I will never allow individuals like her to spread their hatred and racism globally.'

The French Football Federation (FFF) has also reacted, condemning Amarilla's comments as 'criminal and reprehensible'. They announced plans to file a report with the prosecutor's office to pursue legal action.
In their statement, the FFF said, 'The racist remarks by Paraguayan Senator Celeste Amarilla targeting Kylian Mbappe are utterly abhorrent and unacceptable. How can anyone make such statements? These remarks are criminal and reprehensible and must be prosecuted everywhere.' They expressed their support for Mbappe and the entire team, emphasizing their commitment to combating racism and discrimination.
