The clash began on Sunday when a clash broke out between convicted prisoners and those in custody. The incident took place in an overcrowded prison in the Sri Lankan coastal city of Negombo. Reuters has given this information quoting sources.
According to local television channel Hiru, the dead included both prisoners and prison officials. This prison is located about 35 kilometers north of Colombo. It is not yet clear what caused the clash. But it is being told that during the riot on Monday, some prisoners snatched the weapons of the jail, after which the violence increased further and the situation became fatal.
