London. People of the Kashmiri community living in the United Kingdom on Monday demonstrated strongly outside the Pakistan High Commission in London in protest against the alleged repression and action by security forces in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

The protesters raised demands for restoration of human rights in PoK, release of arrested people and stopping the crackdown on civilians. A large number of people present raised slogans and appealed to the international community to intervene in the matter. This demonstration has taken place at a time when there are continuous reports of tension and protests from PoK.

Various reports have claimed civilians were killed and injured in action by security forces. Besides, information about curfew, closure of communication services and tightening of security arrangements has also come to light in many areas. These claims could not be independently verified.

Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) said on social media platform ‘X’ that through the protest in London, migrant Kashmiris showed solidarity with the people of PoK. The committee says that the public movement cannot be suppressed by the use of force and Kashmiris living abroad will stand together in the fight for the rights of their people.

On the other hand, the UK unit of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) also supported the protest and alleged that many protesters were killed, hundreds were injured and many people were detained in PoK. The party also claimed the arrest of prominent leader of the movement Shaukat Nawaz Mir.

Meanwhile, British MP Imran Hussain appealed to the Pakistan government to lift the restrictions imposed in PoK, restore communication services and start peaceful talks with all parties. He said that respecting the human rights of Kashmiris should be the top priority. He also said that a letter has been sent to the British Foreign Secretary on this issue and the matter has also been raised in the British Parliament.
