Ankara, July 6. Police have detained 46 people in Türkiye’s capital Ankara. This action was taken as part of security arrangements ahead of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit to be held on July 7-8. According to the report of Turkish media outlet HaberTurk, this campaign was conducted under the supervision of Ankara’s Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office. The Public Security Branch of Ankara Police and other police units also participated in it.

According to the report, the suspects were identified through technical surveillance and physical surveillance. He is accused of posting pictures of weapons on social media, having a long criminal record and being involved in several weapons- cases.

The police conducted simultaneous raids at several locations in the city and also recovered evidence to alleged criminal activities. All the suspects are currently in police custody and legal action is underway against them. According to Xinhua news agency report, this operation is part of a comprehensive security arrangement implemented in Ankara ahead of the NATO summit. Police have increased checking in the areas to the conference and have also increased the security cordon. Policemen are deployed 24 hours at designated places.

Turkish officials say all necessary legal, administrative and security arrangements have been made to maintain law and order and public safety before and during the conference. Investigation and security operations will continue further.

Heads of state and government of 32 member countries will attend

The NATO summit will be attended by the heads of state and government of the organization’s 32 member countries. Apart from this, thousands of representatives, security personnel, journalists and support staff will also reach Ankara. It is considered to be one of the biggest international events ever held in Ankara.

Officials have said that the conference will last only for two days, but special security arrangements will be in place before and after that. According to the semi-official Anadolu Agency, about 70,000 security personnel will be deployed during the conference.

The Ankara Governor’s Office has banned all meetings, demonstrations, sit-ins, rallies and other similar activities from June 28 to July 10. Apart from this, restrictions have also been imposed on concerts, festivals and big public events. Special control will also be maintained on traffic around the conference venue, hotels where delegations stay and major roads.
