New Delhi: India Under-19 wicketkeeper-batter Anvay Dravid played a superb innings of 87 from just 67 balls to help his side recover from early trouble and post 285 against Sri Lanka Under-19 in the second Youth ODI in Hambantota on Monday.

After choosing to bat first, India found themselves under pressure almost immediately. Captain Yashbardhan Chauhan was dismissed for six while Sagar Virk managed only four as the visitors slipped to 11 for two. Kushagra Ojha (38) and VK Vineeth (24) added some stability but another couple of wickets left India struggling at 81 for four.

Anvay and Rajput change the game

Walking in during a difficult phase, the 17-year-old Anvay showed confidence from the start. He attacked the Sri Lankan bowlers with clean stroke play, hitting nine fours and a six while reaching his half-century in just 47 deliveries.

Anvay then built a crucial 145-run partnership for the fifth wicket with Arjun Rajput, who made a composed 76 off 81 balls. Their stand completely changed the momentum of the innings and gave India a strong platform after the early collapse.

Anvay looked set for a century before falling for 87, while Rajput was later run out. India eventually lost their final wickets quickly and were bowled out for 285 in 47.2 overs.

Strong form continues…

Sri Lanka’s left-arm seamer Gimhan Mendis was the standout bowler with figures of 5 for 41. Despite the late collapse, India’s total was built around the partnership between Anvay and Rajput.

Anvay had scored 14 in the opening Youth ODI, where India successfully chased 321 to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. The young batter has also been in good touch for Karnataka, scoring 220 runs in the recent Vinoo Mankad Trophy while leading the state’s Under-19 team to the quarter-finals.

Cricket also continues to be a family affair for the Dravids. On Sunday, Anvay’s elder brother Samit Dravid impressed in the Maharaja Trophy KSCA T20, taking two wickets and scoring an unbeaten 40 to guide Bengaluru Blasters to victory.
