New Delhi: Diljit Dosanjh’s period investigative thriller, Satluj, was pulled down from OTT platform Zee5 in less than 48 hours. Now, the official spokesperson of the co-producer of the film, Ronnie Screwvala’s RSVP Movies, confirmed who banned the movie in India.

The film Satluj, which was initially titled Punjab 95, is based on the late human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, who collected evidence of the extrajudicial killings and cremation of almost 25,000 people in Punjab during 1985 and 1994. He was later kidnapped and killed in 1995.

Why was Satluj removed from Zee5?

According to the official spokesperson of RSVP quoted by the SCREEN, the movie has been pulled down by the government. He was quoted as saying by the publication, “The government has pulled it down”, assuring that the film would stream again “hopefully soon”.

After the film was leaked online and a pirated version started to circulate on X (formerly Twitter), Zee5 urged fans not to support piracy, assuring that they are doing their best to get the film back on OTT. They wrote on X, “We are hopeful and doing everything we can. Please do not support piracy. We remain committed to exploring every possible avenue to bring Satluj back to you.”

Diljit Dosanjh on Satluj being banned in India

During the live session, Diljit Dosanjh admitted that he predicted the film would be taken down from OTT, but he didn’t expect it to happen on Sunday itself. He also urged everyone to circulate the downloaded version of the film to help reach the story of Jaswant Singh Khalra to more people. He said during the livestream, “Now you can share it among yourselves, it’s your film. But I’m happy and relieved that the film finally reached the audience. Many people have already downloaded it. Once anything lands online, it never gets deleted. I saw a video from Rajasthan where people are watching the film; I felt very happy. Please show it to your friends and everyone around you.”

“Many people have downloaded the film. Those who haven’t watched the film, you share the film with each other. Everyone has the film. Those who haven’t watched it can show it to their friends and companions. As for today, it’s Monday; I hear the film is still available abroad, let’s see how long it stays. Or if the film comes back somewhere, if they can fight for this cause… we have been fighting for this for the last four year,” he added.
