A shocking incident has come to light from Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir, where negligence of a government school could have cost the life of a student. A student of seventh class fell asleep in the class after school and no one noticed him. After closing the school, the entire staff went home, due to which the students remained locked inside the school for about four hours. Later, a passerby heard his voice and took him out. After the video of the incident went viral on social media, the Education Department took strict action and suspended the entire school staff.

Student slept in class, school closed and entire staff left
According to officials, the incident occurred on July 4, 2026 at Government Middle School, Krawah (Zone Banihal), Ramban. This day was the last working day of school before the 15-day summer holidays. It was told that the seventh class student had fallen asleep in his class during vacation. The school administration closed the school without ensuring that all the students had left the premises. At around 8 pm, several hours after the school closed, a passerby heard the student's voice and reached there and pulled him out safely. The passerby also recorded a video of the entire incident, which later went viral on social media.
Big action by Education Department, entire staff suspended
Considering the incident as serious negligence, the Chief Education Officer (CEO) of Ramban suspended all the 9 employees of the school with immediate effect. These include 6 teachers and 3 support staff including the headmaster. The Education Department said in its order that ensuring the safety of students is the primary responsibility of the school administration. Any mistake in this matter could have posed a serious threat to the life and safety of the student. Therefore, immediate action has been taken against all the employees under Jammu and Kashmir Civil Service Rules.
A three-member investigation committee will investigate the entire matter
A three-member committee has been formed to investigate the matter impartially. In the committee, the Principal of Higher Secondary School Girls, Banihal has been made the Chairperson, while the Zonal Education Officer, Banihal and the Principal of High School Bankut have been made the members. The committee has been instructed to conduct a detailed investigation of the entire incident and identify the responsible officers and submit its report to the Chief Education Officer within three days.
