Major accident amid heavy rains in Mumbai, three-storey chawl collapsed in Mankhurd; 6 dead, rescue operation underway

Mumbai, 6 July. A major accident occurred on Monday amid continuous heavy rains in Mumbai. A three-storey chawl suddenly collapsed in Mankhurd area of ​​the city, killing at least six people while one person was injured. After the accident, relief and rescue work is going on war footing. A horrifying video of this incident has also surfaced. According to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials, four women and one man were brought to the municipal corporation’s Shatabdi Hospital, where doctors declared them brought dead. Another man was declared dead at Rajawadi Hospital. One person injured in the accident is undergoing treatment at Rajawadi Hospital.

According to officials, this accident happened at around 8:30 pm in Chawl No. 5 of Janta Nagar, located behind Hanuman Temple of Mankhurd. According to preliminary information, two to three rooms of the three-storey building including the ground floor suddenly collapsed. As soon as information about the accident was received, Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB), Mumbai Police, BMC officials and 108 ambulance service teams reached the spot and immediately started relief and rescue operations. In view of the possibility of other people being trapped under the debris, a continuous search operation is being carried out.

Local BJP councilor Navnath Ban said that there is a possibility of one person still trapped under the debris. He said that due to continuous heavy rains, the rescue operation is facing a lot of difficulties. The administration has intensified the relief work by keeping the surrounding area under security cordon. Officials say the operation will continue until the debris is cleared and all potentially trapped people are safely evacuated.
