Saugata Roy said, “This is not a topic for discussion. Trinamool Congress has filed disqualification petitions against leaders who have joined the NCPI. The Speaker will take a decision on those petitions. Our aim is not to discuss this issue. We will focus on how to raise our voice against the BJP in Parliament. We will also raise the issues of NEET exam and controversies to Ayodhya Ram temple donation.”
On 20 out of 28 TMC MPs joining the Nationalist Citizens Party of India and forming a separate faction, Saugata Roy said, “The Speaker will decide on this matter. We have no role in it. This is completely within the Speaker’s jurisdiction and the decision will be taken only as per the Speaker’s powers. Apart from filing a disqualification petition under the anti-defection law, we have also submitted a separate petition to the Speaker. Now the decision has to be taken by the Speaker only.”
On the Ram Mandir Trust meeting to be held on July 6, TMC MP Saugata Roy said, “The accused of misusing the funds received for the Ram Mandir are associated with BJP and RSS. Those who have been accused are close associates of Champat Rai, who was the secretary of the Ram Mandir Trust. He has also been accused. We doubt whether there will be a fair investigation in the matter or not, but we want either a CBI inquiry or a judicial inquiry.”
On former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s statement that ‘those who got everything from the party are rebelling’, he said, “This is not rebellion, but a betrayal. Rebellion is a very big word and it is to revolutionaries. It is an act of deception. Those who got the most from the party (from Firhad Hakim to Chandrima Bhattacharya) have left the party. It is unfortunate.”
On the reasons behind Chandrima Bhattacharya leaving TMC, Saugata Roy said, “Those who are leaving the party are motivated by two things (greed and fear). Mamata Banerjee has already said that it will not make any difference. Chandrima Bhattacharya had once lost the assembly elections.
When asked about the investigation report being presented against Justice Yashwant Verma during the monsoon session, TMC MP Saugata Roy said, “Yes, there are allegations of corruption. It is not a political issue. If the Speaker presents the report, all members will vote on it. In my opinion, the impeachment process will be completed.”
