Norway secured a dramatic 2-1 victory over Brazil in the Round of 16 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, booking a place in the quarterfinals. The match was played at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, United States, with American referee Ismail Elfath in charge.
Brazil had an early opportunity to take control of the match, but Bruno Guimarães failed to convert a penalty in the 14th minute.
The second half saw the return of Neymar, who entered the game as a substitute in the 67th minute in an attempt to inspire Brazil's attack.
The breakthrough finally came in the 79th minute when Norway striker Erling Haaland found the back of the net. Haaland struck again in the 90th minute to double Norway's advantage and put the Scandinavian side firmly in control.
Brazil managed to pull one goal back deep into stoppage time, with Neymar converting a penalty in the 100th minute, but there was not enough time for a comeback.
The result sends Norway into the World Cup quarterfinals, where they will face England in Miami on July 11. Brazil, meanwhile, exits the tournament after its Round of 16 defeat.
