Adani Defense and Aerospace laid the foundation of South Asia's largest private-sector missile ecosystem in Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh. This is an important step towards furthering the company's defense manufacturing goals on a large scale under the Centre's 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' programme. The foundation of this facility was laid in the presence of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, state Energy Minister Pradyuman Singh Tomar and senior government officials.

The company said that this integrated facility will bring the entire value chain of missile manufacturing – from raw materials to mission-ready missile systems – under one roof, which is happening for the first time in India's private sector. Speaking at the ceremony, Jeet Adani, Director, Adani Enterprises, said that we have gathered here today for a historic occasion – where the foundation of South Asia's largest private-sector missile ecosystem is being laid. He said the facility will bring raw materials and mission-ready missiles under one roof – a historic initiative outside the public sector.

Investment of Rs 2,500 crore

Medium and long-range missile systems will be built in Shivpuri complex. Additionally, it will also have facilities for composite propellant manufacturing and production of TNT and explosive-grade materials, which will strengthen India's indigenous defense production capacity. Jeet Adani said that the company will invest Rs 2,500 crore in this project in the next three years. He said that in the next three years, we will build this state-of-the-art facility with an investment of Rs 2,500 crore, which will provide employment to 5,000 people directly and indirectly and more than 50 MSMEs will be connected to a very special supply chain. According to the company, this upcoming facility will further enhance its defense manufacturing operations in Gwalior, where it manufactures light machine guns, assault rifles and carbines.

The plan is something like this

Commenting on the progress of these operations, Jeet Adani said that our Light Machine Gun (LMG) program alone has supplied 2,000 units to the Armed Forces – which is 11 months ahead of schedule! He further said that these facilities of Gwalior and Shivpuri together will create a big cluster of defense manufacturing in the state. He said that Gwalior and Shivpuri together will work as two engines of defense innovation in Madhya Pradesh. They will ensure that the advanced systems that protect our skies are proudly built by Indian hands, on Indian soil. This project is part of Adani Group's big investment plan in Madhya Pradesh. Last year at the Global Investors Summit in Bhopal, Chairman Gautam Adani had announced an investment of Rs 1.10 lakh crore in hydro pumped storage, cement, mining, smart meters and thermal power projects in the state, with the aim of creating 1.2 lakh jobs by 2030.

Investment has been made in many districts

Jeet Adani said that the group has already invested more than Rs 4,000 crore in its Ametha and Camor cement plants in Katni district, while Adani Power is currently supplying 1,200 MW power to Madhya Pradesh and work is underway to supply 5,600 MW. He also mentioned the ongoing wind energy projects in Dhar, Ratlam and Ujjain as well as the proposed cement plant in Ujjain and the recently started Rs 1,060 crore cement project in Guna. Describing these investments as a commitment for the long-term development of the state, he said that these investments are being made not just in plants and factories, but in the people and future of Madhya Pradesh.

Working together with DRDO and armed forces

Referring to the central government's efforts for self-reliance in the defense sector, Jeet Adani said that the company is working closely with the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and the armed forces to reduce India's dependence on imports of defense equipment. He said that Shivpuri is the next big step in this journey, as we are bringing a fully integrated missile ecosystem to manufacture medium to long range missile systems, which will replace foreign dependency with domestic capability.
