Manchester City forward Erling Haaland has long been associated with a potential move to Real Madrid, with rumours resurfacing periodically. Earlier this summer, Real Madrid presidential candidate Enrique Riquelme claimed he had reached an agreement to bring Haaland to the Spanish giants if he won the election. However, those claims were swiftly dismissed by Haaland’s representatives, and Florentino Perez ultimately retained the presidency.

Despite repeated denials, speculation surrounding Haaland’s possible future at Real Madrid has never completely faded. His admiration for the club and for Spanish football is well known, and he frequently visits Spain during his holidays. The interest from Real Madrid’s hierarchy in the prolific striker has also been evident for quite some time.

As Haaland prepared for Norway’s crucial Round of 16 encounter against Brazil at the World Cup, his father, Alf-Inge Haaland, spoke to DAZN. When asked about the ongoing links between his son and Los Blancos, Alf-Inge, who has played a major role throughout Erling’s career, appeared to suggest that a move to the Santiago Bernabeu would certainly appeal to his son.

“I don’t want to say much about elections at other clubs. He is happy at City, he has a long contract… but any player wants to play for Real Madrid,” he was quoted as saying by Marca.

At present, imagining Haaland in Real Madrid’s white shirt seems difficult given the array of attacking talent already in their squad. For the Norwegian star to make the switch, it would likely require one of Kylian Mbappe or Vinicius Junior to depart. The latter’s situation remains somewhat uncertain, with his current contract set to expire in less than a year and no new agreement reached despite both sides expressing a desire to continue together. Notably, there have been no formal contract talks for the past 18 months.
