Real Madrid have officially completed the signing of Denzel Dumfries from Inter Milan after activating the Dutch defender’s €20 million release clause. The 30-year-old right-back has signed a four-year contract and will compete with Trent Alexander-Arnold as Jose Mourinho looks to bolster his squad for the upcoming season.
Real Madrid reinforce their right flank
The Spanish giants confirmed Dumfries’s arrival from Inter following an agreement with the Serie A club. According to the official announcement, the Netherlands international has committed to a four-year deal that runs until June 30, 2030.
Dumfries joins Real Madrid for a reported transfer fee of €20 million (£21.6m/$29.1m), as reported by The Athletic. Inter opted to part ways with the player as he approached the end of his contract. His addition provides valuable experience and depth at right-back, where Alexander-Arnold has been the mainstay.
Official confirmation from Real Madrid
In an official statement, the club said, “Real Madrid C.F. and Inter Milan have reached an agreement for the transfer of player Denzel Dumfries, who will be linked to our club for the next four seasons, until June 30, 2030.”
Experienced defender brings stability to the squad
After Dani Carvajal’s contract expired, Alexander-Arnold had been the only recognised senior right-back in Mourinho’s team. Dumfries’s arrival ensures greater competition and depth in the position.
The Dutch defender departs Inter after five successful seasons, during which he became one of Europe’s most consistent wing-backs. He made 207 appearances for the Italian side, scoring 27 goals and contributing 28 assists while helping the Nerazzurri to two Serie A titles.
Despite undergoing ankle surgery during his final campaign, Dumfries still managed to feature in 28 matches and net five goals. His experience and versatility will strengthen Madrid’s defensive setup on the right flank.
Madrid’s busy summer continues
Dumfries’s arrival marks the latest addition to Real Madrid’s active summer transfer window. Los Blancos have also reinforced other parts of the squad, with Ibrahima Konate, Bernardo Silva and Marc Cucurella joining Mourinho’s ranks as the club prepares for another demanding season in La Liga and Europe.
