Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing a Chelsea midfielder valued at around £50 million, with several reliable sources confirming that the club is exploring a move.
United’s main focus this summer is to strengthen their midfield with two new additions. The departure of Casemiro, combined with Manuel Ugarte’s inconsistent form and recent injury, has made midfield reinforcements a top priority.
The Red Devils already have a deal in place to bring in Atalanta’s Ederson, though the transfer has not been officially completed as the player is currently representing Brazil at the World Cup. However, Manchester United are also assessing other midfield options.
According to The Guardian, Chelsea’s Andrey Santos has emerged as a key target for United.
The report indicates that the Brazilian midfielder is valued at £50 million by Chelsea. Santos is said to be open to a move away from Stamford Bridge in search of regular playing time, as he currently sits behind Moises Caicedo in the midfield hierarchy following Caicedo’s recent contract extension.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed United’s interest in Santos. He revealed that the club has made an initial enquiry regarding the player, and early discussions have taken place on the player’s side, although no formal offer has yet been submitted.
Despite this, Chelsea are believed to be open to letting Santos leave if a ‘good proposal’ is received, suggesting United could have a realistic chance of securing his signature.
Renowned journalist David Ornstein has also supported the claims made by other outlets.
Writing in The Athletic, Ornstein reported that United are indeed considering a deal for the Chelsea midfielder, though other clubs are also showing interest.
The journalist noted that Santos’s representatives have received enquiries from several potential suitors for the 22-year-old, indicating growing interest in his services.
Although Chelsea are not actively pushing for Santos’s exit, the club are understood to value him highly while remaining open to a sale if the right offer arrives.
For his part, Santos reportedly remains eager to break into Chelsea’s first team, though he is realistic about the competition he faces for a starting spot.
During the previous Premier League season, Santos made 27 appearances, scoring once. He also featured in multiple domestic cup fixtures, starting regularly in both the League Cup and the FA Cup.
The only FA Cup matches Santos did not start last season were the final two rounds, suggesting that once Chelsea progressed to the later stages, the club opted to rotate their squad and prioritise other players.
