Kolkata-based music collective Luna Room Society on Saturday released its latest instrumental track ,
Lock The Grid, marking World Music Day with a live-recorded, brass-led production.
Led by pianist and composer Soumojit Sarkar, the track blends funk and groove-driven arrangements and features a full horn section , including tenor saxophone, alto saxophone, trumpet and trombone , a format still uncommon in Bengal’s independent music circuit.
The project brings together a multi-member lineup, with Sarkar composing, arranging and producing the track while also performing on keys and organ. Other contributors include Arnav Bachospati Chakraborty (bass), Satyajit Mukherjee (drums), Sandeep Banerjee (tenor saxophone), Ankit Adhikary (alto saxophone), Meer (trombone) and Pratyasa (trumpet).
Speaking about the release, Sarkar said the track was designed as a collaborative studio effort centred on live ensemble recording. “Working with a full brass section for an original funk composition was both a logistical and creative challenge,” he said.
The recording was handled by Saptak Sarkar, Biswarup Bhattacharjee and Sambit, with mixing and mastering by Saptak Sarkar.
Industry observers point to a gradual rise in independent instrumental output from Kolkata, though large-ensemble recordings remain limited due to higher production costs and coordination demands. The track is available across major streaming platforms.
Luna Room Society functions as a collaborative platform for original music projects, focusing on ensemble-based recordings and cross-artist partnerships.
