CM Rekha Gupta Final Warning to Delhi Private schools: Delhi CM Rekha Gupta has given a final warning to private schools regarding arbitrary fee increase. Delhi CM clearly said that arbitrariness on fees will no longer work. CM Rekha Gupta said that action can be taken on schools that ignore government rules, including imposing fines, canceling their recognition and in serious cases, even taking over the school management.
In fact, after continuous complaints against private schools, the Rekha Gupta government of Delhi has launched a campaign against non-private aided schools. Now the government will take action against arbitrary fee increase in these schools.
The government has directed all private unaided schools to constitute a fee regulation committee at the school level by July 15, 2026, under the new committee. This committee will review every proposal to fees and ensure that the fee increase is in accordance with the prescribed rules and actual needs. After the implementation of the new system, the school management will not be able to increase the fees as per its wish. Any fee proposal will be placed before the committee, where it will be examined based on the financial needs and available documents.
Education Minister gave a strict message
Let us tell you that under the new committee, the government has made it clear that if any school management interferes in the work of the committee by influencing the process of fee determination, then strict administrative action will be taken against it. In such cases, there is a provision for cancellation of recognition along with financial penalty and if necessary, taking over the school management. Education Minister Ashish Sood has informed through a post on social media X that the objective of this system is to provide quality and affordable education. He also said that the objective of the Delhi School Education (Transparency in Fee Determination and Regulation) Act, 2025 is to make fee determination transparent and accountable. Further said that no school will be allowed to charge extra amount from parents through hidden fees or arbitrary hike.
Selection will be done through lottery for transparency
The government has made it clear that the selection of parent and teacher representatives in the fee regulation committee will be done through public lottery. The entire process will be video recorded and government appointed observers will monitor it. Schools will have to issue public notice at least seven days before conducting the lottery, so that the selection process remains completely fair.
Now schools will be able to take only old fees
According to the government, till the final approval of the new fee structure in compliance with the interim directions of the Delhi High Court, all private schools will charge fees as per the academic session 2025-26. If any school has charged additional fees during this period, its final decision will be based on the court order. The excess recovered amount will be returned to the parents if required or adjusted in further fees.
