The state government has taken a tough stance to root out corruption and irregularities in the temples of Tamil Nadu. Minister S. Ramesh made a big appeal to the public on Friday and said that if demanding money in exchange for job, illegal extortion in the name of darshan or any other irregularity is happening anywhere in the temples under the department, then the devotees should report it without fear. The minister made it clear that complaints with evidence should be sent to his office and the government, on which immediate and strict action would be taken.

Illegal extortion in the name of quick darshan will be curbed During inspection at a temple in Tiruchendur recently, Minister S. Ramesh had revealed that the temple staff were carrying out illegal transactions in the greed of devotees to get early darshan. After this revelation, the government has decided to make the administration more transparent. Under Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay’s policy of corruption-free administration, the state government is refraining from diverting temple funds into any commercial activity. Under this, projects like 46 temple projects approved by the previous government and the proposed multi-level car parking in Coonoor have been cancelled.

Case of giving bribe to MLA: 5 more arrested Along with improving the temples, the state government is also working on political purity. TVK MLA from Uthangarai N. Police have arrested 5 more people in connection with the attempt to bribe Ilaiyaraaja, taking the total number of arrests in this case to 8. The case dates back to June 29, when a huge offer of Rs 35 crore was made to the MLA by calling him to vote in favor of a big political party during the no-confidence motion. This case has created a stir in the politics of the entire state and the investigating agencies are active to get to the bottom of the matter.
