Raj Thackeray, the leader of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), has openly criticized the central leadership of the BJP and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. He pointed out the insensitivity of party members and accused them of arrogance. In a post on X directed at Fadnavis, Thackeray remarked that the BJP's central leadership has developed a sense of power arrogance, with people from all corners of India expressing their discontent. He noted that the central leaders have acted arbitrarily, igniting anger among the populace, which continues to simmer. He questioned whether this malaise has now spread to Maharashtra and if it is being allowed to proliferate.
Thackeray observed that there used to be a clear distinction between the politics of Maharashtra and other states, but he alleged that in recent years, Maharashtra has begun to resemble the backward-thinking states of the North. He stated that there was once a vast difference between the political landscape of Maharashtra and that of other states, with Maharashtra's leaders being respected and admired nationwide for their wisdom and maturity. However, he claimed that it has become evident in recent years that Maharashtra is increasingly mirroring those less progressive states.
The MNS chief criticized Fadnavis for failing to take action against a BJP MLA and party officials who allegedly laughed at the deaths of citizens. He emphasized that while one of your MLAs and some officials find humor in people's deaths, no action is taken against them. He referenced the famous saying: 'Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.' He suggested that if the current BJP allies need an example of this, they need look no further than their own ranks, as the situation has deteriorated significantly. He lamented the lack of remorse or regret among those in power, leading to a complete loss of shame.
These comments followed a viral video showing Mumbai BJP chief and MLA Amit Satam smiling while discussing two tragic deaths related to the recent monsoon. Drawing from his 37 years of political experience, Thackeray compared the current situation to the conduct of former Maharashtra leaders like Bal Thackeray, Sharad Pawar, and Pramod Mahajan, stating that they never shielded errant allies, which helped maintain the state's national reputation.
