Aadhaar Email Update: You no longer need to make repeated trips to Aadhaar Seva Kendras or stand in long queues to keep your Aadhaar card updated. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has launched an excellent, free service on its new mobile app. Through this, you can add or change your email address in your Aadhaar records right from the comfort of your home using your smartphone. This facility became available to Aadhaar users on July 1, 2026, and will remain free of charge for six months.
How many people updated for free?
The new facility received an overwhelming response immediately after its launch. According to UIDAI, more than 2.5 lakh people updated their email IDs via the app within just two days of its launch. This clearly indicates that users are rapidly adopting digital channels to avail themselves of Aadhaar services.
Why is updating your email important?
According to UIDAI, linking your email with Aadhaar is crucial as it offers several significant benefits. The primary advantage is enhanced security.
Real-time notifications: Whenever an authentication request is made using your Aadhaar number, you will instantly receive a real-time alert or notification on your registered email.
Security and transparency: Furthermore, this enhances transparency for the user. If someone attempts to misuse your Aadhaar, you will be alerted immediately, allowing you to prevent falling victim to fraud in time.
How many people have used this new app so far?
People are really appreciating this new Aadhaar app. According to UIDAI, the new Aadhaar mobile app recorded over 3.1 crore (31 million) downloads within just five months of its launch. During this period, more than 40 lakh people updated their mobile numbers, and approximately 10 lakh users updated their addresses. These figures demonstrate that people are increasingly turning towards digital Aadhaar services. The app offers several other essential features.
This new Aadhaar app is not limited to just updating email addresses; it includes various modern features designed to enhance user privacy and security:
1. Face Authentication
There is no longer a need to submit physical documents to verify your identity. The app supports face authentication, allowing your identity to be verified simply by scanning your face.
2. Biometric Lock/Unlock
To prevent the misuse of fingerprints and iris scans, the app features a one-tap biometric lock facility. You can lock your biometrics with a single click, ensuring no one can use your fingerprint without your permission. It can also be unlocked instantly whenever needed.
3. Encrypted QR Code
Users no longer need to share a photocopy of their entire Aadhaar card to prove their identity; instead, they can use the app's encrypted QR code. This ensures that only limited and necessary information is shared with the other party, keeping your data entirely under your control.
What other services are available?
In addition to the above, the Aadhaar app offers several other facilities. Users can perform the following tasks:
Download e-Aadhaar.
View authentication history.
Book appointments at Aadhaar Seva Kendras.
Scan the Offline Verification Seeking Entity (OVSE) QR code to facilitate fast and secure identity verification for services such as hotel check-ins, hospital admissions, visitor management, and gig worker onboarding.
What is UIDAI's objective?
UIDAI states that these digital features aim to reduce reliance on physical Aadhaar cards and make identity verification faster, more secure, and more convenient than ever before. The new email update facility is also considered a significant step in this direction, enabling millions of Aadhaar holders to access easy and secure services from the comfort of their homes.
