The Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) has introduced an SOS (emergency) feature in its buses and the 'Margdarshi' mobile app to further enhance the safety of passengers, especially women. The objective of this new system is to provide immediate assistance to passengers during any emergency, ensuring a safe and stress-free journey. UPSRTC has shared details regarding this initiative on its X (formerly Twitter) handle.
**SOS Feature Active in Buses and the 'Margdarshi' App**
According to UPSRTC, a special SOS button has been installed in the buses. Passengers can use this button if they encounter any trouble, feel unsafe, or face an emergency during their journey. Pressing the button triggers an alert to the control room, prompting immediate action to assist if required.
**How and When to Use It**
Additionally, the SOS feature has been made available in UPSRTC’s ‘Margdarshi’ mobile app. Passengers can download the app on their smartphones and seek help with just a single click when needed. Information sent via the app reaches the control center, which then alerts the relevant officials and security agencies.
According to the transport corporation, upon receiving an SOS alert, coordination will also be established with the '112' emergency service to ensure rapid assistance for passengers. This facility ensures round-the-clock (24x7) monitoring and support. UPSRTC states that women's safety is its top priority; hence, modern safety features are being integrated into both buses and digital platforms.
This new SOS facility is considered a significant step towards boosting passenger confidence regarding safety and making public transport more reliable. Through this initiative, UPSRTC conveys a clear message: "Every journey safe, every passenger worry-free."
