So, as a bit of an effort to unearth new talent and at the same time prep the younger guys for the longest format, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will organize a domestic red-ball tournament, startin g from July 4, all the way to July 26. The Emerging Men’s Tournament is set to happen at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru , where four teams will play four day matches. With this step, BCCI is basically looking to spot standout cricketers who could actually turn up for India in Test cricket, in the coming years.
As reported by The Times of India, the Emerging Men’s Tournament will have four teams, and each side will play three matches sometime between July 4 and July 26. Each match, will run over four days, and the full tournament will be hosted at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. The board has also picked a few of India’s brightest Under-25 players, , many of whom have already donned the national colours at age-group level, and then done well in domestic cricket. These players will lead the four teams as captains.
Uday Saharan, who captained India in the 2024 Under-19 World Cup and has recently become Punjab’s captain for the 2025 domestic season, will lead Team A. Former India batter Wasim Jaffer, now Hyderabad’s newly appointed mentor, will be the one guiding the side, meanwhile Sourashish Lahiri will handle the assistant coach role.

Karnataka batter Smaran Ravichandran, a steady performer in domestic cricket through the last couple seasons, will captain Team B. He’s also part of the Maharaja Trophy 2026, so he’ll be balancing that as well. Former India spinner Ramesh Powar will serve as head coach while Anshu Jain has been named as assistant coach.
Twenty-three-year-old Yash Dhull will captain Team C. The Delhi batter steered India to the Under-19 World Cup crown in 2022, and even now he keeps showing up as one of the country’s brighter young prospects. Himateja K will captain Team D, and former India pacer Debasish Mohanty taking charge as head coach, with Vinit Indulkar set to work as the assistant coach.
