Yatin Karyekar says Kamal Haasan didn't want his character slapped in 'Vasool Raja MBBS'

Veteran actor Yatin Karyekar recalled his experience working with Kamal Haasan in ‘ Hey Ram ’ and ‘ Vasool Raja MBBS ’. During a recent interview, Yatin spoke about Kamal Haasan's working style and shared his views on some decisions taken during the making of the Tamil remake of ‘ Munna Bhai M.B.B.S ’.
Yatin Karyekar speaks about Kamal HaasanWhile speaking with Siddharth Kannan, Yatin claimed that one important scene from ‘Munna Bhai M.B.B.S.’ was changed in the Tamil remake because Kamal Haasan did not want his character to be slapped.
About ‘ Vasool Raja MBBS’ sceneHe said, “He is very self-obsessed. The scene where Jimmy Shergill slaps Sanjay Dutt in the Hindi version was being recreated in Tamil, but he didn't let that scene happen. He replaced the slap with a push.”
Yatin also said he was surprised by the change and recalled that even the assistant director seemed uncomfortable while discussing the scene.
He further said that, in his opinion, ‘Vasool Raja MBBS’ did not have the same emotional impact as the Hindi original because the father-son relationship was different from the one shown between Sanjay Dutt and Sunil Dutt in ‘Munna Bhai M.B.B.S’.
Another incident with Kamal HaasanYatin also spoke about working with Kamal Haasan in ‘Hey Ram’. He claimed that the actor often found himself in controversies because he believed they kept public attention on his work.
He recalled an incident in which Kamal allegedly protested a flight delay by sitting in front of an aircraft. According to Yatin, the incident received a lot of media attention at the time.
Even after making these claims, Yatin said he has great respect for Kamal Haasan as an actor and filmmaker. He described him as a brilliant technician and said his comments were only about certain aspects of Kamal's working style, not his talent.
On the current work front, Kamal Haasan was last seen in ‘Thug Life’. He is also working on multiple big budget projects including with Rajinikanth and the sci-fi mythological sequel ‘Kalki 2’.
