Reports indicate that Julian Nagelsmann has decided to step down as Germany’s head coach, which could finally clear the way for Jürgen Klopp to assume a position he has long been associated with.
Yet, a significant hurdle remains in place. The 59-year-old former Liverpool manager is currently bound to Red Bull as their Head of Global Soccer under a contract that runs until 2029.
It is believed that Klopp has a clause allowing him to accept the Germany coaching role if approached by the Deutscher Fußball-Bund (DFB). However, according to a report from Bild, this clause is not formally included in his written contract and was only agreed upon verbally.
The same report claims that Red Bull would seek compensation in the range of a single-digit million-euro fee. Should the DFB agree to pay this amount, it would mark a historic moment—the first instance in which the German Football Association has ever paid a transfer fee to secure the services of a coach.
