Speaking to Rediff, singer Deepali Sahay said, ‘It has been almost 20 days since the song was released, but it feels as if 20 years have passed. This is unbelievable and unreal. I am not able to understand it. I have never experienced anything like this in my life. It took some time for the film and music to leave its mark among the audience. It started slowly and then suddenly the audience responded tremendously.

AR Rahman has already announced

Talking further, the singer said, ‘I was already in that environment as soon as the song was released, because AR Rahman sir had predicted in the Indian Idol show that this song would do very well. He had said that this song will always be remembered. But I did not expect that it would get so much response. Maybe I was very naive and new to this matter, but whatever is happening with this song and this film – I don’t think this is normal.

When the doctors said – you will never be able to sing

During the interview the singer was asked whether he had lost his voice. Then how did she recover? Responding to this, the singer said, ‘I was only 18 years old when a very senior doctor told me that you would not be able to sing. I hosted the 2008-09 season of Indian Idol. I was very young at that time. For six months I worked with the auditions of Indian Idol. My throat was completely torn, my vocal cords started bleeding. I was not able to speak even a single word. I had completely lost my voice. The doctor looked at my report and said to stop singing, and I really believed that if I continued singing, I would lose my speaking voice.

Later Singer understood the whole matter

Deepali Sahay further said, ‘I had given up singing completely. Even if he ever did any stage show, he participated only in selected programs. Even after a year, I could not understand that my voice was slowly starting to recover. Perhaps this was my biggest mistake. There was no one to tell me that my voice was becoming the same as before, so I decided to leave singing and enter the world of acting.

The singer further said, ‘After starting acting, I became so busy with my work that I did not even get time to think about singing. It took me six years to realize that my voice had completely recovered. I was singing normally, but never felt that my voice had returned to what it was before. Unfortunately, I realized this when I was 24-25 years old. By then I had gone far away from singing.
