Satluj’s arrival on OTT platform

Punjab 1995, which was in dispute with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for the last three years, has now been released on the OTT platform with its new name ‘Sutlej’. The film started streaming exclusively on ZEE5 on Friday evening. It includes actors like Diljit Dosanjh, Kanwaljit Singh, Arjun Rampal, Suvinder Vicky and Geetika Vidya Ohlyan. The film is based on the life of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra and focuses on disappearances and alleged extrajudicial killings during the state’s counter-insurgency operations against Khalistani militancy in the 1980s and 1990s.

Political and social scenario in the trailer

The makers of the film have also released an official trailer, which is over two minutes long and depicts the political and social climate of Punjab in 1995. In the trailer, Arjun Rampal’s character reveals that while the police force was busy fighting insurgency, some officers took advantage of the situation for their selfish motives. In the trailer, Suvinder Vicky’s character warns Diljit Dosanjh’s Jaswant Singh from speaking against the police, saying that doing so could put his life in danger.

Attempt to raise the issue at the international level

The trailer also shows Jaswant’s pursuit of justice, in which he resolves to fight for his community and protect human rights. He challenges a system that is trying to suppress the truth. The trailer also shows Jaswant demanding justice for over 25,000 missing people. In one scene, Jaswant says, ‘We are not against the police or the government, but against selfish people who have crossed the limits of humanity for their promotion.’ The trailer ends with Jaswant’s own kidnapping and disappearance, reflecting the story of a man who dedicated his life to the pursuit of justice for others.

Available to viewers without cuts

Three years of uncertainty has ended with the release of this film. Director Honey Trehan shared a note on Instagram, in which he thanked everyone who has been with him in the journey of this film. He clarified that although the film has a new title, audiences will be able to watch it without any cuts. Trehan wrote, ‘We could not get the previous title of the film. Now the title is SATLUJ. This is the complete film, without any cuts or compromises, in its original form as we always wanted. He expressed his gratitude to Diljit and the producers, without whose honesty and determination this would not have been possible.
