Manchester United have officially announced that defender Scarlett Hill has signed her first professional contract with the club.
The club confirmed that Hill, who joined United at the age of nine, has agreed to a deal that will keep her at Old Trafford until the summer of 2028, with an option to extend for an additional year.
Last season, Hill was included in several senior matchday squads under manager Marc Skinner before spending a loan spell at Sheffield United. During her three-month stint with the Blades, she made four appearances and played a part in helping the team maintain their Tier Two status for another season.
This news follows shortly after Layla Drury also signed her first professional contract with Manchester United, highlighting the club's ongoing commitment to developing young talent through its Academy system.
In a statement, Hill expressed her excitement: “Having been at Manchester United since the age of nine, it is an unbelievable feeling to sign my first professional contract. Going from growing up watching your role models to now having the opportunity to play alongside them is a surreal feeling.”
She added, “There are so many people who have made today’s milestone possible, but I must take the opportunity to thank each of my Academy coaches, who have always believed in me, and my parents, who have dedicated everything to support me in achieving my dreams.”
Hill continued, “I know how high the standards are at Manchester United and I’ll continue to push myself every day to learn in our special environment and reach my full potential.”
Matt Johnson, Director of Women’s Football at Manchester United, commented, “Signing her first professional contract is a well-earned milestone for Scarlett. Having been at the club since the age of nine, she knows exactly what it takes to succeed at Manchester United.”
He further stated, “Scarlett’s progress is a testament to her dedication, the outstanding coaching within our Academy, and the unwavering support from her family.”
Johnson concluded, “It’s an incredibly exciting time for the club as we continue to benefit from the exceptional work being done in our Academy and the long-term commitment we’ve made to developing homegrown players. Everyone involved should feel proud of the pathways that have been created to help young talents like Scarlett thrive as part of our world-class youth development programme.”
Hill and her teammates are scheduled to return later this month as they begin preparations for the upcoming season.
