Katia Aveiro, the sister of Cristiano Ronaldo, has suggested that the legendary forward may soon bid farewell to the Portugal national team.
Speaking to reporters in Toronto, where Portugal are set to play Croatia in the Round of 32 at the 2026 World Cup, Aveiro shared her thoughts on what could be a defining moment in her brother’s illustrious career.
She expressed her happiness and pride at being able to witness this stage alongside Ronaldo, describing the upcoming match as “the last dance” for both Ronaldo and Luka Modric — two icons who are believed to be nearing the end of their international journeys.
When asked about the possibility of this being Ronaldo’s final World Cup appearance, Aveiro stated that she had reliable information indicating that this tournament would indeed mark his last outing with the national team. She clarified, however, that the farewell would not take place during the match against Croatia itself.
Aveiro also addressed the criticism her brother has faced in recent months, defending him passionately. She remarked that “those who don’t appreciate Cristiano simply don’t understand football,” and emphasised how proud the entire family remains of his remarkable achievements throughout his career.
