Decline in LPG usage

According to a recent report by the Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell (PPAC), LPG consumption in India saw an 8% decline during the first six months of 2026. The report states that India consumed approximately 14.7 million tonnes of LPG between January and June 2026, compared to 15.9 million tonnes during the same period last year, indicating a drop in usage.

The government attributed this decline in LPG consumption to supply chain disruptions. India imports about 60% of its requirements, with nearly 90% of those imports originating from Gulf countries in West Asia and passing through the Strait of Hormuz. Tensions between the US and Iran led to a blockade of this route, causing disruptions in the supply.
