New Delhi: Pakistan said on Thursday that good progress has been made in implementing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Iran and America. The next meeting will take place as soon as possible after the funeral of Iran’s late supreme leader Ali Khamenei.

Different meetings took place in Doha

According to Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry, Qatari and Pakistani mediators met separately with US and Iranian negotiators in Doha. According to Reuters report, the main focus of the indirect talks held in Doha on Wednesday was to implement the MoU signed in Islamabad on June 17. This included issues such as Iran’s frozen assets and maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz.

Funeral in Tehran on Friday

The Pakistani statement said that both sides have agreed to continue talks further. The next meeting will be scheduled immediately after Khamenei’s funeral.

Khamenei’s funeral will be held in Tehran on Friday. On February 28 this year, he was killed in an attack by America and Israel in Tehran. Leaders, officials and religious figures from many countries will come to pay tribute at the funeral.

Khamenei will be buried in Mashhad on July 9

Ali Akbar Pourjamshidian, Iran’s deputy interior minister and head of the funeral organizing headquarters, said several farewell ceremonies and processions would be held. The late supreme leader will be buried in the north-eastern Iranian city of Mashhad on July 9.

Pakistan says that the talks have been positive towards implementing the MoU. Efforts are being made to reach a consensus on issues like security of ships in the Strait of Hormuz and seized assets of Iran. After the talks in Doha, it is expected that the next round between America and Iran will start soon after Khamenei’s funeral.
