Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s supreme religious leader, was killed in a joint attack by America and Israel. Iran held his funeral in Tehran on July 4, 126 days after the incident on February 28, the day the Iran War began. However, Khamenei’s successor, Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, will not be present at the ceremony. On Thursday, Mojtaba Aptashayak said that he will not come in public due to security reasons.
Ayatollah Hakim Elahi told an Indian media outlet, “Tensions with Israel continue. Mojtaba will not attend the state funeral of the late Ayatollah Ali Khamenei due to security reasons.” “The funeral will be held despite threats from Israel. It is expected that participants from all over the world will attend,” he added. Mohammad Fatali, Iran’s ambassador to India, also said that there is a strong interest among Indians to attend the funeral.
Incidentally, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Khamenei’s funeral. However, the Prime Minister will not be able to attend the event as he has a pre-scheduled visit to Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand at the same time. But a government delegation is going from India. The group includes Bihar Governor Syed Ata Hasnain and Minister of State for External Affairs Pavitra Margarita. A few officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will also go to Tehran with them. On behalf of Iran, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge was also invited to the event. But he too will not be able to attend as Congress is sending former foreign minister Salman Khurshid.
Also, Congress IT Cell Chief Pawan Khera, BJP All India President Nitin Naveen have been invited to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s funeral in Tehran. According to sources, PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti of Jammu and Kashmir and Agha Syed Hasan Mosavi Al Safavi, president of Anjuman-e-Shari Shian, have already left for Iran after receiving the invitation.
