Indian Railways: Indian Railways made a new record in June 2026, 1422 lakh tonnes of freight and 63.81 crore passengers traveled.

New Delhi. Indian Railways has created a new record by registering significant growth in both freight and passenger transportation in June 2026. Railways transported 1422.1 lakh tonnes of goods during this period, which is 55 lakh tonnes (4 percent) more than 1367.1 lakh tonnes in June 2025. Due to this increase, Railways received additional revenue of about Rs 430 crore.

According to Railways, there was a significant increase in the transportation of various major commodities in the month of June. There was an increase of 19.1 percent in transportation of fertilizers, 17.3 percent in other goods, 9.4 percent in iron ore, 4.9 percent in domestic coal, 3.6 percent in total coal and 7.2 percent in clinker.

In the first quarter (April-June) of the financial year 2026-27, Railways transported 4190.8 lakh tonnes of goods, while in the same period of the last financial year this figure was 4130.5 lakh tonnes. During this period, there was an increase of 7.44 percent in transportation of iron ore, 6.54 percent increase in clinker and 12.16 percent increase in transportation of other goods.

Railways also said that in June 2026, 7 percent more coal was supplied to the country’s power plants as compared to the previous year, which helped in continuing power generation without any interruption. The performance of Railways was also better in the field of passenger transport. In June 2026, 63.81 crore passengers traveled by rail, while in June 2025 this number was 62.37 crore.

The number of passengers traveling non-suburban (long and medium distance) increased from 28.90 crore to 30.04 crore, showing a growth of 3.9 per cent. At the same time, suburban services also registered an increase of 0.9 percent and the number of passengers increased from 33.46 crore to 33.77 crore. Railways say that the continuous growth in freight and passenger services is the result of operational efficiency, better logistics and facilities being provided to passengers.
