The storm that has been raging in Punjab Congress for a month now seems to be calming down. There was speculation about change of leadership in the party. Many rounds of meetings were held from Delhi to Chandigarh and the news of change of party president was also in the headlines. After this, the party has now announced its new team for the upcoming assembly elections. Many big leaders have been included in this team.

However, the speculation about change of leadership did not happen. The party did not remove state president Amarinder Singh Raja Wading and leader of opposition Pratap Singh Bajwa from their posts. There was speculation that changes would be made in both these posts. Now the party has announced its entire team and many faces have got a place in it.

Channi’s part campaign committee

The name of former CM Charanjit Singh Channi was in the forefront as the head of Punjab Congress. Channi also emerged as the most popular leader in the party’s internal survey. However, as per his wish he did not get the post of State President. The party has given him the responsibility of campaign committee. He is currently a member of the Lok Sabha and is one of the prominent Dalit faces of the party. Punjab has the highest Dalit population. In such a situation, the Congress Party has tried to create caste balance by handing over the command of the campaign committee to him.

These faces also got a place in the campaign committee

Campaign committee is considered most important during elections. This committee decides the direction of the election campaign. Apart from Channi, MLA Sukhpal Khaira has also got a place in this committee. Sukhpal Khaira is a big leader of Punjab Congress. He has been an MLA several times and was also the Leader of Opposition in the Punjab Assembly in 2017 on behalf of the Aam Aadmi Party. In 2018 he returned to the Congress Party. Won the 2022 assembly elections but had to face defeat from Sangrur Lok Sabha seat in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Rana Gurjit belongs to Kapurthala and has won the Punjab Assembly elections four times so far. Now the party has given him important responsibility. Apart from this, the party has also given place to MP Dharamveer Gandhi.

These leaders also got responsibility

Manifesto Committee– Dr. Amar Singh has been made the chairperson of this committee. Gurjit Singh Ojla, Pragat Singh Hardayal Singh Kamboj, Sukhwinder Singh Sarkaria have also got responsibility in this committee.

Election Management Committee- In this, Vijay Inter Singla has been made the president. OP Soni, Razia Sultan, Kuljeet Nagra, Angad Singh Saini, Bharat Bhushan Ashu have been given the responsibility.

Core Committee- Its command has been given to Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa.

Apart from this, three working presidents have also been appointed. Among these, Sukhwinder Singh Danny, Raj Kumar Verka and former minister Sangat Singh Giljian have been given place.

regional balance

In this list of Punjab Congress, every effort has been made to maintain regional balance. Giving maximum priority to Malwa region with 69 seats, the party has handed over the command of the campaign committee to former Chief Minister and Dalit face Charanjit Singh Channi. Along with this, Raja Vading, who comes from the politically important Jatt Sikh community, has been made the head of this community as well. Along with this, Hindu leader Vijay Inder Singla has been included in the Election Management Committee and Dalit leader Dr. Amar Singh has been made the Chairman of the Manifesto Committee.

There are a total of 25 seats in Majha region and from this region the party has made Jat Sikh leader Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, considered the most important, as the chairman of the core committee, while Pratap Singh Bajwa has been retained as the leader of the opposition. There are 23 seats in Doaba region and the influence of Dalit population in this region is quite high. From this area, the party has given the responsibility of working president to Sangat Singh Giljian, Raj Kumar Verka and Sukhwinder Singh Danny.
