PM Modi called Japanese counterpart Takaichi ‘younger sister’, said – new chapter of relations begins

New Delhi, 2 July. As part of the India-Japan 16th annual summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi addressed a joint press conference after bilateral talks in New Delhi on Thursday. During this, Prime Minister Modi welcomed Takaichi and addressed her as ‘younger sister’ and said that her visit to India is the beginning of a new chapter of the Special Strategic and Global Partnership between the two countries.

Warm welcome to PM Takaichi

Prime Minister Modi said, ‘I am very happy to welcome younger sister Prime Minister Takaichi on her first visit to India for the India-Japan Summit. She is the first female Prime Minister of Japan and is also a visionary and popular leader. Prime Minister Takaichi and I believe that technology partnership will become the strongest pillar of our cooperation. To realize this vision, today we have issued a joint statement in the field of AI.

Mentioned Buddhist heritage and trustworthy partnership

PM Modi said that Sanae Takaichi hails from Nara Prefecture, which is a major center of the shared Buddhist heritage of India and Japan. He said, ‘At the G7 summit, I said that in the current global turmoil, trusted partnerships are a global strategic asset. India-Japan partnership fully meets this criterion. From automotive to electronics, Japan has been an important partner in India’s development journey over the last several decades and a strong capital of trust has been built between the two countries.

Japanese investment of more than 10 billion dollars will come to India

Prime Minister Modi said that India and Japan are among the leading economies of the world and a free, prosperous and rules-based Indo-Pacific is a common priority for both the countries. He said, ‘The confluence of Japan’s precision technology and India’s software capabilities will give new impetus to global AI development. Today, India and Japan have signed an agreement on the first co-development project in the defense sector. The partnership between the two countries is also continuously strengthening in the field of investment. In the last one year, about 120 new business agreements have been signed, which will bring Japanese investment of more than $10 billion to India.

Many important issues discussed in bilateral talks

Earlier, a bilateral meeting was held between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi at Hyderabad House in New Delhi. The two leaders discussed in detail investment, defence, semiconductors, critical minerals, supply chains, maritime security and regional and global issues. The meeting was part of the 16th India-Japan Annual Summit. Earlier, Sanae Takaichi was formally welcomed at Rashtrapati Bhavan and was given a guard of honour.

Takaichi is on a three-day visit to India

This is Sanae Takaichi’s first visit to India after becoming Prime Minister. During the three-day visit, she will also participate in the India-Japan Business Forum, where special emphasis will be on further strengthening investment, trade and economic cooperation between the two countries.
