On July 2, during his second-round match against Greece's Stefanos Tsitsipas at Wimbledon 2026, Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic, currently ranked World No. 8, entertained the crowd with a lighthearted prank involving a ball girl. Djokovic secured his place in the third round with a convincing straight-sets win, finishing 6-3, 6-4, 6-2, as he continues his pursuit of a coveted 25th Grand Slam title.

The 39-year-old showcased his exceptional skills, dominating Tsitsipas throughout the match and leaving him struggling to respond. With this win, Djokovic notched his 104th victory at Wimbledon, just two matches shy of surpassing Roger Federer's record of 105 match wins at the prestigious All England Club.

A Lighthearted Moment on Centre Court

During a changeover while Tsitsipas took a bathroom break, Djokovic engaged in a playful moment with a ball girl. As he adjusted a piece of tape on his shoulder, he jokingly asked her to trim it with scissors. The girl, unaware of the prank, leaned in to help, only for Djokovic to feign a dramatic reaction as if she had cut him. The startled girl looked momentarily terrified until Djokovic burst into laughter, revealing it was all in jest.

Realizing the humor, the ball girl joined in the laughter, which resonated throughout the Centre Court audience, creating a joyful atmosphere.

Djokovic Reflects on the Prank

In a post-match interview, Djokovic addressed the amusing incident, expressing a mix of regret and humor. He acknowledged that such moments often arise when he's in a comfortable position in the match. "I’m sorry if I scared her. It probably wasn’t that great of a joke, I guess," he remarked, while also noting that it lightened the mood for him as well.

He added, "It was a great joke. She laughed. It made me a bit more relaxed," highlighting the fun shared between them.

Looking Ahead

As Djokovic aims for his record-equalling eighth Wimbledon title and a historic 25th Grand Slam victory, he is set to face France's Arthur Rinderknech on Centre Court on July 2. At 39, Djokovic is on the brink of becoming one of the oldest champions in Grand Slam history, further solidifying his legacy as one of the greatest athletes in the sport.
